A man and woman sitting on a porch

31 Magazine readers let me introduce you to this purposeful, Becoming Proverbs 31 woman! Meet Mychel Jones! As a mother, wife, dancer, and community worker, she has dedicated her life to serving others and she loves every minute of it!

Mykiee, Thank you so much for talking with us! Before we dig in, our readers would like to get to know you a bit more. Can you tell us a bit about yourself?

This question is always funny to me because I never know where to start or what to say! Well, my name is Mykiee Jones and I'm the wife of, BMI Award Winning and Gospel Recording Artist, Adrian Jones. I've been married for 5 years and we have been blessed with a beautiful daughter, Emma Gina Jones. I'm all things family, faith, and friend, establishing healthy relationships and expressing love toward others. These are two things that are very important to me.

What career are you in?

So... this question is twofold. My background and part-time commitments are in Addiction Services, as I'm an Internationally Certified Addictions Counselor. While on the other hand, I currently hold the post of Chief Operations Officer at my mother's charity Gina Spence Productions #856.

Can you share why you chose this career path?

Well, I literally fell into the field of Addictions as I was looking for any opportunity in the helping services field and happen to be offered a job at the Nelson Bascome "Women's Treatment Center" back in 2015. While on the other hand, I do feel that I chose the path of Non-profit with GSP as it was personal for me. I saw the work that my mom had started and wanted to ensure her legacy continued.

What are your greatest joys from the community work you have done over the years?

My greatest joy is working with my mom; she is literally my best friend, we are truly a POWER TEAM. Taking the foundation she has built and taking it to the next level is very humbling. Additionally, seeing the smiles on the faces of our seniors, families, and children that are most vulnerable throughout community outreach programs, is so heartwarming and purpose-filling.

What are some of your other passions?

Dance ministry is one of my ministry passions. I'm currently the dance leader for my home church New Creation Worship Center, under the leadership of Apostle and Pastor Denwiddie. It's where I feel most comfortable and vulnerable at the same time! For solo pieces, I usually chose a song that resonates with me and my relationship with God first, a song that I feel I can share an experience or revelation from God through dance. When I'm leading my dance team, I chose songs that I feel God wants for the people at that time. When leading others in dance ministry, I'm big on encouraging them to know that they have something to give and empowering them to lead in different capacities. I have to give a shameless plug to my spiritual mother and dance mentor Carmelita Millett, the founder of Anointed Steps Dance Ministry School, being she poured into me when I was new in the faith, especially to dance ministry having dance experience outside of the church setting. She truly cared about me as an individual and my relationship with Christ. So today as I lead others, I do the same. Their spiritual relationship with Jesus is more important than dancing on a Sunday morning. The people should be receiving their dance ministry out of their personal experience and understanding of our Heavenly Father.

When did you start dancing?

I started dancing from the gate of Five but in the church in 2009.

What drew you to dance and how do you keep your passion and joy for dance alive?

Honestly, It was a natural fit as that was what I was actively doing before I gave my life to Christ. I was actually a limbo and belly dancer at the time and knew that I was going to have to make a transition to living a life that reflected Christ. I keep it alive by listening to new music, watching youtube videos of other dance ministries, and staying active with my team at my home church.

As a new mother, how do you create a balance between your career, ministry, passions, and your family life?

HA! Joke of the year. Balance is still something I'm looking to maintain because I have seasons, but maintaining it through them all I have NOT mastered. However, I have to make sure my "me tank" isn't empty. My fuel is a mix of Jesus with Massages. As long as those two are maintained, I find it easier to show up in every role and title that I hold in my life. I will say having a present, active, and intentional husband, makes a huge difference. After 16 years together with 6 years married, he knows how to create a healthy balanced home for my crazy, hectic life outside of our home. Lastly, girl, it's my VILLAGE FOR ME! We have a HUGE VILLAGE and let them play their role to the fullest. Without balance, this would not be attainable.

What values, declarations, and scriptures kept you from season to season?

My values are honesty and intentionality because the truth will set you free! I'm not limited to others' expectations of me but I show up as Mykiee all day every day, with all of my insecurities, strengths, and weaknesses! You will get the authentic me. And when I come, I will give my all and be very intentional. My declaration over the past two years has been, I have a sound mind, I can endure much, and I'm not easily shaken! My favorite scripture speaks to the sovereignty of God, His power and authority, and His intentionality. Psalms 24:1-2 New Living Translation (NLT) The earth is the LORD’s, and everything in it. The world and all its people belong to him. For he laid the earth’s foundation on the seas and built it on the ocean depths.

"I have a sound mind, I can endure much, and I'm not easily shaken"
